Professional standards

Share carefully. Define confidentiality clearly.

An initial inquiry is handled for assessment and response. It does not, by itself, create a non-disclosure agreement.

Draft policy for owner and legal review before public release.

At the inquiry stage

Please provide only what is needed to explain your role, constituency and support needs. Do not send voter lists, private identity records, account credentials, unpublished allegations or detailed confidential plans through an initial inquiry.

Information received should be accessible only to people who need it to assess fit, review conflicts and respond. Third-party email, messaging and form providers also process information under their own terms.

During an engagement

The written agreement should identify confidential material, permitted uses, authorised recipients and any return or deletion arrangements. Access should reflect each person’s responsibilities. Shared folders and communication groups should be reviewed as the team changes.

Client names, testimonials, photographs and work examples should not be used publicly without appropriate permission. A case study must not reveal confidential information simply because some related facts are already public.

Practical limits

No website, email or messaging service can promise absolute secrecy. Disclosure may be necessary for legal obligations, professional advice, essential service provision or other circumstances described in the engagement. The precise commitments and exceptions belong in the agreement.

A request for information from an unfamiliar person should be verified before material is shared. Access credentials should not be sent through an ordinary inquiry.

Questions or concerns
